About seventy talented young musicians from Chicago’s south and southwest suburbs compose the Suburban Youth Symphony Orchestras. The Orchestras present an annual subscription series as well as a number of other performances in the area. Our two performing groups represent over 30 southern suburbs. Though each carries its own character, they all unite under the common goal of making music together.
Coaching & Sectionals
In addition to the orchestral concerts and ensemble performances, SYSO members benefit from coaching and sectionals with professional musicians. They experience learning and performing orchestral music composed by both old masters and new innovators. Weekly rehearsals are held on Sundays from September through April. Student musicians have the opportunity to form close friendships as well as grow musically during these fun rehearsals. SYSO is a member of the American Symphony Orchestra League. A grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency, partially supports this program.
